In 2009, Brown University student Matthew Severson created The School Fund. Since its humble beginnings meeting in an off-campus house at Brown University, the organizational structure of TSF has expanded to work in multiple cities, with student volunteers on a number of college campuses. Now, TSF wants to recognize its Brown University roots.
The School Fund at Brown has been working tirelessly to spread the message of The School Fund to the Brown community. Beginning this week, TSF at Brown plans to launch a series of events to make The School Fund a household (or dorm-hold?) name at Brown. Here’s a quick look at just a few of these events:
The School Fund on the Green: Tuesday, April 24th on the Main Green (Under Faunce Arch or in Faunce if raining) We want to introduce TSF to as many Brown students as possible! In order to do this, we will set up a table right on the Main Green to spread the word throughout the day. We will be giving away FREE TSF stickers to anyone who stops by our table and listens to a quick pitch. After explaining who we are and what we do, we will have laptops available for students to check out the site, and even fund students! There will also be some light refreshments available, so be sure to stop by if you are at Brown!
QR Campaign: Wednesday, April 25th at the Ratty and V-dub (Dining halls) Now that they’ve heard about TSF on the Main Green, we want to get Brown students to visit the site. We will be passing out table-slips (small flyers) to the every table in the two
dining halls on campus. These flyers will have TSF’s logo, as well as a QR code. Using a smart phone to scan these special bar codes brings you directly to the TSF website. If you aren’t at Brown but still want to make a difference, feel free to print out these codes and spread them around your home town! (Email Michael@theschoolfund.org if you are interested).
The School Fund Gala: Thursday, April 26th at the Alumni Center: 5-7:00 PM Finally, after months of planning by the hard-working Gala Group from TSF at Brown, we will be holding the School Fund 2012 Gala at Brown. Kenneth Okoth, the Founder of Children of Kibera, will be there to give a presentation about the impact of TSF on the students we sponsor! There will also be a presentation by TSF founder and President Matt Severson. Laptops will be displayed throughout the event so that attendees can see the website, and sponsor a student. This is a great opportunity for students, as well as a number of prominent University faculty members, to learn about The School Fund in an intimate setting. And if none of that convinces you to stop by, there will also be delicious catered appetizers!
